In all probability not. If you have a check engine light on then you will need to have it scanned for codes. If the code shows a component, such as the TPS, it DOES NOT mean that is defective. It only means the problem lies in that area. That is what you pay a technician to let you know. It is cheaper to know what is the problem, than to throw parts at the car.

The possibilities can be many. It can range from a malfunctuioning fuel pump, to a bad throttle position sensor, to faulty fuel injectors. First I would check the throttle position sensor since this is the cheapest part, and also the easiest to replace. The throttle position sensor tells the computer how much air and fuel to put in the engine. If it is messed up it can cause hesitation, stalling, transmission buckoing, etc...

Does a 1991 Geo Metro have a throttle position sensor?

Yes, a 1991 Geo Metro is equipped with a throttle position sensor (TPS). The TPS is part of the vehicle's fuel management system, helping to monitor the position of the throttle valve and provide feedback to the engine control unit. This information is essential for optimizing fuel delivery and engine performance. If you're experiencing issues with acceleration or fuel efficiency, a faulty TPS could be a potential cause.
