To remove the rear shocks on a 1972 Chevy Nova, first, safely lift the rear of the vehicle and support it with jack stands. Then, locate the shock absorber bolts at the top and bottom; use a socket wrench to remove these bolts. Once the bolts are removed, the shocks can be pulled out from their mounts. Repeat the process for the other side if you're replacing both shocks.
If they are both 10 bolt, which means that 10 bolts holding on the rear end cover, and have 8.5" diameter ring gear.

If you look at the rear end where the drivershaft bolts to it you will find the plug screewed into the rear end in that area.
the rear seat back will probably have to come out and then you have to take the rear package tray out to get to the bolts holding the speakers in.
You can switch the rear end from a Chevy 1500 with a Chevy 2500 rear end with minimal effort. Both have similar components but the 2500 offers increased durability.

It is bolted in the bottom of the engine block and runs the hole length of the engine from front to rear. The flywheel bolts to the rear of the crankshaft and the bottom front pulley on the engine bolts to it also.
