Sounds like a good theory, and not a terrible repair.
The tricky thing about fluid leaks is tracking it down to the true source. You may want to clean the area very thoroughly and then check again in a few days.
See "Related Questions" below for more about draining the trans to drop the pan - and might as well replace the filter while you're there...
This would be a primary symptom of a blown head-gasket.
Maybe a head gasket?
Failed seal or gasket.Failed seal or gasket.
AnswerIt could be your boot or seal around the transmission. My 2002 passport was leaking from the front pan, the transmission has a front and rear pan and the gasket had to be replaced.
There are several different ones. Low end is pan gasket for less than $100.00 High end is pump gasket for $500 to $1000.00
Gaskets are critical to proper operation. If you lose to much fluid your transmission will overheat and it will ruin the transmission. Unless you have several thousands of dollars lying around, I would recommend you get you Honda into a "certified" transmission mechanic. The cost of replacing the gasket: part=$75, Labor=$250 but this is better than the thousands it would cost to replace or rebuild the entire transmission.
The Overdrive Light flashing indicates an internal transmission problem which could be caused by anthiny inside the transmission. Most likely the transmission would have to be removed and taken apart to find the problem.
you could have a bad transmission pan gasket which is cheap and easy to fix yourself, or you need a new one. Besides the transmission pan gasket, there are other places the transmission could be leaking from: INPUT SHAFT: fluid would be coming out form the front of the tranny close to the engine. OUTPUT SHAFTS: fluid would be noticed directly below the driveshaft where it connects to the tranny or a rear-wheel-drive vehicle or the left and right axleshaft of front-wheel-drive vehicles. OTHER: tailhousing gasket, speedometer gear input seal, shifter housing seal/gasket, and any other mating surface which has a gasket or seal in it depending on particular vehicle.
the transmissions are different 2000 takes ax4s 2001 take ax4n motors would fit some sensors make need to be transfered
It would be best to get a new exhaust gasket.
The pan gasket could be leaking ( tighten mounting bolts or replace gasket ) Filler pipe rubber seal , Transmission oil lines ( tighten , replace ) Speedometer connector ( replace o-ring ) Some makes have a transmission vent pipe ( transmission over filled ) Output shaft seal damaged (replace)
blown head gasket....not good. Could b Transmission fluid because the transmission cooler is in the radiator-especially IF the water has a red tint 2 it,IF it has a automatic transmission.
