your timing is off, most likely you have to adjust you distributer cap a hair to the left or right. i own an 82 and had the same problem. another answer would be the gap on your spark plugs is to small. i took mine, witch has the 3.8L to have a tune up done and they only put a 35 gap. it made my car ping and skip the correct gap for a 3.8L is 45
