I have an accent 2001 and a year ago in a rain storm my wipes just stopped . it was the linkage which connects the two wipers together to the switch that moves them. it had snapped but it did not cost very much.

there could be a number of reasons. start with the switch,a loose/corroded conection, fuse, relay and the motor it self. check to see if you got "juice" going in to the motor if you do the problem may be the motor or a bad ground connection.(its pretty simple to test with just a test light)

It is most likely the wiper motor transmission assembly. They cost around $80 at the dealer. I had to have mine replaced on my 01 Accent and they said it is a common problem on the Accent because water gets in there and it corrodes causing it to seize up. It shows all the same symptoms as a bad wiper motor but when a new motor is put on it will not work and it will keep blowing the fuse. I'm not sure how hard the assembly is to install. Dealer can get the part but independent mechanic will charge a lot less to install it.
