James Watt was a mechanical engineer and inventor from Scotland. His work and research was important for the development of the Industrial Revolution, because he was the one who refined the steam engine. He married Margaret Miller in 1764. They had five children together, of which only two of them lived past childhood.

James Watt had seven children. Five with one wife, and two with the other.

The 1st wife, Margaret Miller (his cousin), bore him James Watt Jr. and Margaret Watt-both made it to adulthood. The other three are unnamed, but they didn't make it all the way. In the last childbirth, Miss Miller died.

The 2nd wife, Ann MacGregor, had Gregory and Janet Watt. Ann died of old age in 1832.

After two wife losses, James Watt didn't marry again.

Who developed a practical steam engine?

A steam powered water pump was invented in 1698 by an Englishman, Thomas Savery. In 1712, Thomas Newcomen improved the Savery engine but it was still very inefficient. Then Scottish inventor James Watt improved the Newcomen engine and is credited with inventing the first working steam engine. However steam power was first mentioned by the Greek inventor Hero in Alexandra, Egypt in the first century, AD. It was called the aeolipile and was a simple metal ball that contained water. There were two tubes sticking out on opposite sides of the ball with a 90 degree bend that went in opposite directions. When heated over a fire, the water boiled in the ball and came out the tubes, which made it spin.

Who invented the train engin?

Although James Watt was the first to patent a "steam locomotive", it was US's John Fitch who first made a working model, and it was England's Richard Trevithick who in 1804 built the first full-scale steam locomotive that actually could pull a train. The first electric train developed more or less naturally from the electric tram that was invented by Werner von Siemens in 1881. The first oil-engined diesel locomotive was invented and designed by Herbert Akroyd Stuart in 1896, but the design now used in most diesel engines was designed in 1914 by Hermann Lemp, a GE engineer in the US.
