∙ 11y agoNot really. It states that all men have certain rights, such as freedom of speech and religion as stated in the Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments to the Constitution). However, those rights did not apply to slaves.
After the Civil War, three very important amendments were added to the Constitution:
the 13th Amendment abolished slavery;
the 14th Amendment stated that everyone born in the United States was a citizen (including former slaves) and that no state could "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws; and
the 15th amendment said that no one could be denied the right to vote on the basis of "race, color or previous condition of servitude."
