Well, I highly doubt that anyone has recently or previously tried to assassinate President Obama. But if someone has recently or previously tried to assassinate President Obama, news-casters would report the incident on the national news networks, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News Channel, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc.
All presidents receive such threats, and sad to say, there have been several instances where white supremacists or people who seemed to be mentally ill tried to carry out an assassination plot against President Obama. One incident occurred in late 2011 when a man named Oscar Ortega-Hernandez made threats and tried to shoot at the White House with an assault rifle. But his and other efforts were not successful and those who made the attempt were arrested.
Not that we're aware of but many people would probably encourage an attempt. :)
