A great number of presidents were in office during the Cold War. There was John F. Kennedy, Harry Truman, Richard Noxon, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Ronald Reagan among others.
The cold war began with Truman as President and lasted through Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and part of Bush41.

Containment is a term coined by George Kennan in 1946. It was the policy of the U.S. in the Cold War mainly under President Truman (1945-1953). The later presidents during the Cold War alternated between more aggressive tactics (Eisenhower) and more peace-seeking strategies (Nixon).
