Presidents who ran for a 2nd term and lost were John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Martin van Buren, Benjamin Harrison, William H. Taft, Herbert Hoover, Jimmy Carter, and George Bush Sr.

Presidents who weren't even nominated for a 2nd term were John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson, and Chester A. Arthur.

Presidents who opted not to run for a 2nd term were James K. Polk, James Buchanan, and Rutherford B. Hayes.

Presidents who died during a 1st term were William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, James A. Garfield, Warren G. Harding, and John F. Kennedy.
