The people overthrew him and sent him to Siberia but did not execute him and his family. the middle classes set up a Provisional government but it was not very effective. 1917 - Oct - because the P Gov wanted to keep Russia in the WW1 and because of famine etc the Communists (known as the Bolsheviks) took power. and set up their own government under the banner of Lenin and Trotsky
