The Declaration of Independence, in 1776; then the Constitution, becoming effective in 1789
Yes, he did. It was the Constitution that he did NOT sign.
Yes, the American Revolution was over before the Constitution was written. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The US Constitution was signed by 39 of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention, on September 17, 1787, at the same location, which was then known as the "Pennsylvania State House".
A bit more than 11 years. The Declaration was adopted formally as of July 4, 1776. The Constitution was written, that is, put in final form to be submitted to the states for ratification on September 17, 1787.
The Declaration of Independence was written during the summer of 1776. The Constitution of the United States of America was written during the summer of 1787. If my math is correct, then eleven years passed between the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the writing of the Constitution of the United States of America. Declaration of Independence: July 1776 Constitution of the United States of America: May 1787. Thus 1787-1776= approximately 11 years later.
Independence Hall in Philadelphia was the meeting place for the Second Continental Congress, which governed the new nation-to-be from 1775 to 1783, the whole Revolutionary War period. The details of the Declaration of Independence were hammered out here and was adopted by the Congress on July 4, 1776. Five years later, the Articles of Confederation were adopted. The document that was actually written in Independence Hall, however, was the U. S. Constitution in 1787.
