Louis XIV wanted to make France the premier power of Europe. He also sought to make his monarchy secure based on the glory he would bring to France. He also established Asian, African and American colonies during his reign. Even through efforts by the European Confederacy to stop him, by 1697, France and Louis were the most powerful in Europe.
