The Whigs had two presidential candidates elected as President - Wm Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor. So it's safe to say running for President as a Whig and winning, was hazardous to one's health. The Whigs eventually wore out in the 1850's and were replaced with Republicans as the dominant opposition party to Democrats.
