Texas in 1826 wasn’t selling land. It will be another 40 years before the first Americans arrive to settle.
Texas had a large landmass that land hungry Americans saw as beneficial. Many Americans moved to Texas as America was moving west. At first, the Mexicans appreciated the immigration, but it was not long before Americans decided that Texas should be free of Mexico.

The period began with Mexico's victory over Spain in its war of independence in 1821. For the first several years of its existence, Mexican Texas operated very similarly to Spanish Texas
They settled in the west, where there was cheap land so that they could farm like they did in Ireland. The Irish settled in Branfelt, Dallas, and Houston once they got to Texas.

In 1820, Spain held the land that would become Texas. They encouraged Americans to settle in Texas because not enough Mexicans had taken the opportunity to settle there. When Mexico gained their independence, they continued the Immigration policy that the Spanish had put in place.

Stephen Fuller Austin, 1793-1836, is the founding father of Texas. Austin led Americans to settle along the Brazos River in 1821 when Texas was controlled by Mexico, recently independent from Spain.
It was the other way around: when Americans were invited to colonize and settle present-day Texas, following the independence of Mexico from Spain (1821).
