In my opinion, two reasons. It divides the sum total of all governmental powers and distributes them among three separate branches giving each some power over the other so that no one branch becomes all powerful. The second, and more important, is that we have good men and women who are willing to abide by rules set up in the Constitution rather than trying to take on all governmental power the way a dictator would.
The authors of the constitution permitted its power so that there was a central and accepted reference for any relations between people and the state. The constitution also has power to enforce the relationship between two or more people.
The Constitution gives more power to the people.

The Constitution limits governmental powers and ensures that no particular branch has more power than the other...MoMMy.! :)
The Federalists wished to ratify the constitution and give more power to a strong central federal government. Anti-Federalists wished to delegate more power to the states and did not wish to ratify the constitution without modification.
It enstills the laws that our government must abide by. Our constitution states our individual rights that the government is not allowed to come between. More specifically, the constitution protects us from governmental abuse of power through: Example: Freedom of speech; allows us to speak against abuse of power Freedom of press: allows us to publish general and personal opinions
No man can be omnipotent and give more power to the people.
Because the new constitution would give the cenral government more power than it did under the Articles of Confederation, also because the federalist wanted a government wih more power than its states.
Because the new constitution would give the central government more power then it did under the articles of confederation, and the federalists wanted a government with more power then its states.

They do give more horse power
The People give the government power, and the constitution states this. The A.O.C. ( Articles of Confederation ) gave more power to the states, in which the states would make their own money, people chose if they wanted to pay taxes, and created a weak central government. Now, with the constitution, this would change.
The Framers thought that the government was too weak and they wanted to give it more power than the states.
