Life meant not only the right not to continue breathing but the right to engage in the normal functions of life without government control. This encompasses marriage, family, work, education, etc.

Liberty means the right to basically go where you want to go, say what you want to say, and do what you want to do (within reasonable limits) without government control or reprisal.

Pursuit of happiness in this context means basically the accumulation of wealth and property, again within reasonable limits. You can farm or run a mill or work for a living without the government randomly saying you have to hand it over.
