Without the British, the colonists would not have miltary proteciton. The British people basically gave the colonists land and in return the colonists had to provide goods for their economy and loyalty to the King.

If you mean during the American Revolution, all odds were against the American colonies winning the war against Britain. That in and of itself was a huge reason to be a loyalist. Other reasons included (and this is not a complete list): trading agreements with Britain that may not hold up if the colonists won their cause, monetary support from Britain that would most certainly end if the colonies defeated the mother country and the simple fact that many colonists were quite happy to leave things as they were rather than engaging in a long, bloody war that many believed the Americans could not possibly win.
Loyalists did not have any advantages over the patriots during the American Revolution. These colonists were expected to pay the same high taxes and follow the laws as all others.
