The Jacksonians attempted to gain supporters in the South, West, and North. This was the way the Jefferson Republicans had been able to defeat Adams. The Jacksonians also claimed they represented the "common man" and depicted their opponents as the party of the rich and privileged. That was not really true because there were members in all social classes in most major parties. The Jacksonians did score one by appealing to democratic values which seemed to be missing in the infamous "corrupt bargain." Jacksonian democracy was influenced by the west and many of the restrictions placed on voters soon were being replaced or done away with completely. The west was an area where a person was judged by his independence and ability, not by his social status. That influenced the thinking of those calling themselves Jacksonian Democrats.

The major political parties do not directly select the candidate, instead the voters are requesting delegates to represent their vote when they attend the national party convention." See link . =)

Not a nickname, but what they themselves called it was Hellas, after its legendary founder Helen (a male). They called themselves Hellenes. If you want a nickname, it's Greek - the Romans started calling the Hellenes Greeks when they mistook the Greeks in southern Italy for a tribe called the Graeci, and the name has stuck, but Greeks even today call themselves Hellenes.
They considered calling themselves the Anti-Umbridge League, the Ministry of Magic are Morons Group, the Defence Association or Dumbledore's Army
The cast of Calling Dickie Valentine - 1961 includes: Malcolm Goddard as Themselves Jack Parnell as Themselves Dickie Valentine as himself
I am sure they could decide to call themselves whatever they wanted. In some places calling a Social Democrat a "Marxist" would be fightin' words. What names political movements embrace depend on the time (what century, what decade) and the place (what country) and the current political environment. Lots of names chosen in the past are not instructive as to political decisions today.
In England, elections must be held once every five years but can be held more often. The queen has the job of calling elections. She also has the job of presenting the government's program to parliament. That way she has to work at least once a year and some years twice.
Polk and the Democrats espoused the expansionist position, calling for the "reoccupation of Oregon" and the "re-annexation of Texas." The cry of Fifty-four Forty or Fight! was raised by the Democrats, condemning the British presence in the Northwest.
