Mayflower compact
The Mayflower Compact, signed by the Pilgrims in 1620, did not specifically mention religion for the country but rather focused on establishing a civil body politic to create and enact laws for the general good of the colony. This document laid the foundation for democratic self-government in the New World. Religion played a significant role in the lives of the Pilgrims, but the Mayflower Compact primarily addressed the structure and governance of the new settlement.
The Pilgrims who signed the Mayflower Compact settled in England because they were seeking religious freedom from persecution in their home country. They eventually set sail to the New World to establish a colony where they could freely practice their beliefs without interference.
they each want to have own freedom from the other country. They each want their own rules and the government of their own.
The glory of God, and the advancement of the Christian faith and honor of King and Country are the reasons stated for the establishment of a body politic.
They were the first colonies actually succeeded in establishment.
The Mayflower Compact as follows: "In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of England, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, e&. Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King James of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth. Anno Domini, 1620." There followed the signatures of 41 of the 102 passengers, 37 of whom were Separatists fleeing religious persecution in Europe. This compact established the first basis in the new world for written laws. Half of the colony failed to survive the first winter, but the remainder lived on and prospered.
The issuing country of the document is the country that issued or created the document.
The Mayflower Compact stated that the purpose of the pilgrim settlement in the New World was to establish a civil body politic for the better ordering and preservation of the colony. It aimed to create laws and institutions for the general good of the community and promote the success of their mission in the New World.
