A revolution is a fundamental change in power that takes place over a short period of time. There have been four revolutions that have been long remembered; the American, French and Latin American. They happened in order of Latin American, French and the American Revolution.
Communists gained power in several Latin American countries, most notably in Cuba after the 1959 Revolution led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. Other instances include the rise of socialist governments in Chile under Salvador Allende in the early 1970s and the influence of communist guerrilla movements in countries like Nicaragua, where the Sandinista National Liberation Front took power in 1979. Additionally, smaller communist or leftist parties have had varying degrees of influence in countries like Brazil and Venezuela.
The U.S. helped Fidel Castro come to power in Cuba in 1959. The U.S. became angered by Castro's refusal to allow free elections as he had previously promised. Castro further angered the U.S. by nationalizing American businesses and interests in Cuba, and by turning to the Soviet Union for finanacial and military support.
The ones that were in Cuba were taken over by the state. In 1959 the main business was gambling casinos that had been operating since the 1930's. The mob had a lot of business and holdings in Cuba.

Fidel Castro, actually his brother is in power now.
The U.S. opposed Fidel Castro primarily because of his communist ideology and alignment with the Soviet Union during the Cold War, which posed a direct threat to American interests in the Western Hemisphere. After Castro's rise to power in 1959, he nationalized American-owned businesses and implemented agrarian reforms that further antagonized the U.S. government. The fear of a spreading communist influence in Latin America led to various U.S. interventions, including the failed Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961. Overall, Castro's regime was seen as a challenge to the U.S. policy of containment aimed at preventing the spread of communism.
In 2008 Fidel Castro resigned as the President of Cuba. This marked the formal end of his 49 year reign of power in the country.
