Steam energy allowed factories to move away from rivers.
Since they are both rivers they allowed boats to carry goods.
Factories need transportation to bring in supplies needed inside the factory and to ship what is produced in the factory out to stores, the public, etc. Early factories didn't have the use of railroad and trucking transportation, so the quickest way for these early factories to bring things to the factory and ship goods out of the factory was by water. Therefore, they were built along waterways like rivers.
over 1,000 rivers
There are at least 4 majors rivers in South Carolina including the Edisto River. Other rivers include the Great Pee Dee River and the Santee River.
The Allegheny and Monogahela rivers joinb at Pittsburgh to form the Ohio River.
Electricity
Invention of the steam engine allowed manufacturers to build their factories away from rivers.
The invention of steam engines to drive factory machinery allowed manufacturers to build factories away from running water.
Electricity
The most significant factor that allowed manufacturers to build their factories away from rivers was the advent of electricity and the development of electric motors. This innovation enabled factories to operate machinery independent of water power, allowing them to be located in more accessible urban areas with better infrastructure. Additionally, advancements in transportation, such as railroads, facilitated the movement of raw materials and finished goods, further diminishing the reliance on river locations.
Coal, to make steam.
The development of steam engines was the biggest change. It provided power where ever there was something to burn. The factories could be located closer to the raw materials.Electricity allowed manufacturers to locate their plants wherever they wanted, not just near sources of power, such as rivers. Steamelectricity
invention of the steam engine allowed factories to end their dependence on the waterwheel and thus, ended the need to be located next to streams or rivers.
The widespread adoption of coal as a primary energy source allowed factories to move away from rivers. Coal provided a more efficient and powerful means of energy compared to water power, enabling factories to be established in locations more favorable for transportation and labor rather than being constrained to riverbanks. This shift facilitated industrial growth and urbanization during the Industrial Revolution.
Rivers
we are damaging the river because of factories and water pollution.
Most factories in the 1800s were located in developed areas where there was a reliable source of fuel. They were often near sources of coal or on rivers to use the flowing water.
