to kill every one that was thought a witch so if you randomly said that a rondom person was a witch and give a reason and if that reason was something like that person has a cat or somethibg then that person's hads and legs will be tied together and thrown in the water and if that guy some how stayed at the top never sank down (so if your quite fat this will proberly happen) they would think that the person is a witch so they'll throw him in the fire but if he sank down he obviously would die so basicly if some one was accused someone else with witchcraft and they had a reason for that then who evr was accused is dead hope that helped:D

In 1604, the year following James' accession to the English throne, the Elizabethan act was broadened to bring the penalty of death without benefit of clergy to any one who invoked evil spirits or communed with familiars (spirits/pets/demons). The new act's full title was An Act against Conjuration, Witchcraft and dealing with evil and wicked spirits. It was this statute that was enforced by Matthew Hopkins, the self-styled Witch-Finder General.

The acts of Elizabeth and James changed the law of witchcraft in two major respects. First, by making witchcraft a felony, they removed the accused witches from the jurisdiction of the ecclesiastical courts to the courts of common law.

This provided, at least, that the accused witches theoretically enjoyed the benefits of ordinary criminal procedure. Burning at the stake was eliminated, except in cases of witchcraft that were also petty treason; most convicted instead were hanged.

However, by making witchcraft an ordinary crime, they invoked all the penalties of felonies against the convicted witch. This gave local officials a financial stake in finding witches to convict, and led to the most pervasive witch hunts in English history.
