George Washington's ancestors are from Washington in County Durham, England, which is the northeast and coal mining country. I am from that area also and a couple of years ago, my cousin took us there. His ancestral home is calle Washington Hall. As a matter of fact, his ancestors had a different name, which I can't remember right now, but they took the name of the town, Washington.

From the village of Washington (today a medium-sized town), located between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Durham in the north of England. George Washington's earliest recorded ancestor was a nobleman called William de Hertburne, who changed his name to William de Wessyngton after he was given a manor in the village. The manor still survives.
