Daniel Webster was for higher tariffs because he was apart of the North and it helped keep business going. Tariff benefited Northern industry. It caused imported good to be extra expensive. States like South Carolina believed the tariffs were hurting the economy of South Carolina. It became political crises under President Jackson who sent troops to end non-compliance.
