the loyalist did disagree with patriot's oppinion of taxes, because the the british had protected the colonist during war, and according to Ambrose Serle she critized that the colonies were like enemies of the british, also she believed that the complaints against the british wasn't strong enough to revolt against the British. also that colonies hurt England finacilly, but since the existed the governer had to protect the colonist.
The African Americans wanted to join the colonial leaders to go against the British army. The colonists were afraid to let the slaves run around armed (and might even be dangerous.) The colonial leaders realized that they really had no choice but to let the slaves join and fight in the continental army. The reason being is the colonist did not have enough soldiers to fight against the well trained British army. In January, 1776, a law was passed that the blacks could join the army.
The American colonists who still supported the British were called loyalists or Tories (for the dwindling Tory political party, used to ridicule conservative politicians close to George III). It was difficult for any colonist to remain "neutral" when pressured by both sides, who considered anyone not "for" them to be "against" them.
