James C. Blaine convened the Pan-American Conference in 1889 to promote political and economic cooperation among the nations of the Americas. He aimed to foster closer ties and create a regional approach to issues such as trade, diplomacy, and conflict resolution. Blaine believed that strengthening relationships among American countries would enhance stability and counter European influence in the region. The conference marked an important step towards regional collaboration and laid the groundwork for future inter-American organizations.
In reaction to Western prejudices, Pan-Africanists sought to highlight the rich cultural heritage, historical achievements, and contributions of African societies. They aimed to combat stereotypes and promote a sense of unity among people of African descent worldwide. By emphasizing shared struggles against colonialism and racism, they fostered a collective identity that celebrated African resilience and empowerment. This movement also advocated for political and social rights, asserting the dignity and worth of African peoples in the face of discrimination.
As a prefix "pan-" means "all-". So "pan-regional" means "from all regions".
