One of the things they wanted out of their new country was 'no taxation without representation'. To them the Stamp Act was similar to laws they were forced to obey in England in that it forced them to pay a fine that they did not have a say in.

The colonists did not like the taxes Britain was putting on them because Britain had no representation in parliament and the colonists really needed administration and papers every time they wanted to have a baby or get married or even if someone died.

Colonists and the Stamp ActBecause it imposed a tax on materials such as newspapers, wills, insurance policies, land titles, policies, and other goods colonist used. Patrick Henry gave an emotional speech which includes the Ides of March, the death of Julius Caesar. He then said some good colonist would do that to the king and was held for treason. Colonist also boycotted all those goods till the act be taken away.

The colonists were upset because it was taxation without representation, meaning that the colonists were not represented in Parliament so the tax was done without colonial consent.
