The framers believed separation of powers was important because it prevented one branch of government from becoming more powerful than the other two branches. They really feared the possibility of tyranny.

The more distributation of power there is, the less chance of a Dictatorship corruption in government. The Founding Fathers made sure that no one had too much power because they didnt want slavery to accure. It is very dangerous to have one person hold so much power, because if they get corrupt they could use that power to gain more and more power and enslave the people. If you would like to learn more about the principles the founding fathers believed in and what how they wanted America read the book " 5000 year leap - The 28 principles that changed the world" I highly recomend it! It is one of the best book you can ever read.

The founders knew that if say Congress had all the power, then the people would feel as though whatever they say goes, and that would be just the case. They didn't want to overwhelm the people by making it seem like they were doing just as Britain had - dictating them. To much power coming from one person or persons is a very dangerous thing, which is why we have three branches of government. It was meant so that whoever made the rules didn't get power hungry and try to dictate th people as Britain did. They knew no one would like the constitution if all the power came from one source. So the President nor the Senate nor House of Representatives can abuse the power that has been given to them. They can all counter act things that the other(s) want, but may be seriously bad for the country.
