The founding fathers could have created a country where the government was more powerful than the people ( a strong government )

But they recognised that such a government was what they were rebelling against.

So to prevent powerful men, such as themselves, from controlling the country they created a system where the government had to seek the population's approval to govern every four years.

This is in contrast to what happened in Nazi Germany, the USSR, and so many others.

Now read a newspaper and watch the news, are these principles being eroded?
