Because when most people drink alcohol, they aren't necessarily trying to get drunk and can exercise self-control and moderation. It is the group of people who cause DUI crashes and have addictions that give alcohol a bad name.

Many people also get angry that while drugs are illegal, alcohol is legal. But, the answer is simple really. When a person does drugs, they expect or want a high, but someone who drinks alcohol isn't necessarily doing it to get drunk, which I would compare to the high of drugs.

Why didn't the federal local governments collect an excise tax on alcohol during prohibition?

During Prohibition, which lasted from 1920 to 1933, the production, sale, and transport of alcohol were illegal in the United States. As a result, federal and local governments could not legally collect an excise tax on alcohol because there were no legitimate sales transactions to tax. Additionally, the enforcement of Prohibition led to widespread illegal production and distribution of alcohol, making it challenging for authorities to regulate or tax the industry. The lack of legal sales effectively rendered the excise tax moot during this period.

Who was the prohibited by the constitutional amendment of 1920 to 1933?

What is the 18th amendemnt?

The 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1919, established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages, making it illegal to manufacture, sell, or transport alcohol in the U.S. This amendment was a significant outcome of the temperance movement, which aimed to reduce alcohol consumption due to its perceived negative social effects. However, the 18th Amendment led to increased illegal activities, such as bootlegging and speakeasies. It was eventually repealed by the 21st Amendment in 1933.
