it was split as a compromise between the larger states and the smaller ones, the larger states wanted the amount of members to depend on the population of each state but the smaller ones wanted equal amount of members so they split congress up as a compromise

Which branch of government is comprised of the two houses of congress?

The legislative branch was split into two houses of congress. The more powerful of the houses is the senate with 2 representatives from each state and the other is the house of representatives which is based on population.

Who does the legislative branch include?

(In the US) The Legislature branch consists of the House of Represenatives and the Senate. Both have to pass approve a new law. The distribution of the members of the House are based on the population of each State. The Senate is based on two members from each State.Added: Additionally (in the US) - each state has its own legislative body - some are bi-cameral bodies and several are uni-cameral. Also - Counties and municipalities with their own governing bodies have their own legislative bodies.

Does the Supreme Court get its power in the Constitution from Article I?

The Supreme Court (Judicial) does not obtain its power from the first article in the US Constitution. The branch of government that gets power from article one is the Legislative branch also known as Congress which is split into two parts called the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Why is the senate split into three different classes?

Members of the U.S. Senate are elected for a term of six years. Every 2 years, one third of the Senate comes up for reelection. Thus, the Senate is informally divided into three groups, based upon when each Senator was elected. Every Member of the House of Representatives is elected for a two year term. All of the Representatives must run to be reelected each election cycle. The reasoning for this is that each member of the House of Representatives represents a smaller population and if there is dissatisfaction of the Representative's performance then it is easier to replace that person. The Senate counterbalances that by being harder to create sweeping change since only 33 of the 100 members are up for election during each election cycle.

What are the similarities and differences of the Virginia Plan and the New Jersey plan?

The New Jersey Plan has a unicameral government (one house) and the Virginia Plan has a bicameral government (two houses.) The Virginia Plan wants representation in Congress to be based on population. The New Jersey Plan wants representation in Congress to be equally represented. The similarity between the two are they both want to create a system of government for the United States to follow.
