The esophagus is a muscular tube located in the neck and thorax, connecting the throat (pharynx) to the stomach. It runs behind the trachea (windpipe) and heart, passing through the diaphragm before entering the stomach. Its primary function is to transport food and liquids from the mouth to the stomach for digestion.
