Spaniards brought several advantages. They had better weapons. They brought diseases the Aztecs had no defenses against. And Hernan Cortez happened to look like the prophesised Aztec savior. Montezuma welcomed him. Also, they formed alliances with tribes unhappy with Aztec rule.
