In 1271 when Marco was 17 years old he went with his father and uncle through the Holy Land, Persia and Tartary and at length to China, then called Cathay. It took 3 years to reach China. The emperor was named Kublai Khan who lived in Peking. Marco's father had been there before so when he came to the court of Khan he was glad to see them. He was also greatly pleased with the young Polo. At 21 Marco was sent on important business to distant parts of China and he became the envoy of the Chinese crown. Later, Polo will take the daughter of Khan to marry the monarch of the Persia. They left in 14 ships to carry the wedding party to Persia. So, to answer your question I guess he did discover the Persian Empire.

Marco Polo
This was Marco Polo.
John did not discover China; rather, China has a rich history that spans thousands of years, long before any individual could be credited with its discovery. The first known European to reach China was Marco Polo in the 13th century, but various other cultures had established trade and contact with China long before that. The term "discover" often implies a Eurocentric perspective that overlooks the rich tapestry of indigenous histories.
Marco Polo, during the 13th century travelled from Venice (Venezia) to Central Asia and China. His adventurous journeys are narrated in his book entitled "Il Milione". This does not mean the million, although milióne actually means million in Italian, but it rather derives from Polo's family nickname.
