The gods and goddesses Dionysus, Demeter, Hades, and Hestia are all sometimes considered Olympians and sometimes not.
Demeter and Dionysus are considered mankind's two best friends because they suffer like human beings unlike the Olympian Gods.
Edith Hamilton refers to Dionysus and Demeter as suffering gods because they both experienced significant hardship and pain in their mythological stories. Dionysus faced betrayal and dismemberment by Titans, while Demeter endured the loss and search for her daughter Persephone. Their experiences of suffering and resilience contribute to their characterizations as deities who understand human emotions and struggles.
Dionysus, I don't know much about him, but Demeter IS important because she is the goddess of the crops and she helps people with their fields. Also, the gods and goddesses like her for she is so kind.
I believe they are different due to the fact that they are able to grow things. Demeter as the goddess of the harvest makes the crops grow, while Dionysus seems to supply the growth of grapes and such similar plants. In a sense, Demeter makes the grains and vegetables that supply us with food like bread, and Dionysus makes the fruits that supply us with juices and wines and other drinks.
