The members of Muse, namely the front-man Matthew Bellamy, have stated that their name was mainly chosen because it looked professional on posters and the like. However, Bellamy has also stated that the name could possibly have stemmed from his interest in spirits, ghosts etc and that his experiences in such fields were like "an odd Muse descending upon us."
Matthew Bellamy said that his mum used to teach him the Ouija board (to speak to the dead) and so he started hanging around these witches (he says to get laid) and one of them said "an odd Muse descending upon us." ...
His mother was the muse Calliope.

She was the muse of History.
In Greek mythology, the three Muses are typically known as Calliope, Clio, and Erato. Calliope is the Muse of epic poetry, Clio is the Muse of history, and Erato is the Muse of love poetry. Each Muse represents a different domain of the arts and sciences, inspiring creativity and knowledge. Together, they embody the spirit of artistic expression in ancient Greek culture.
I thought Calliope was one of the 9 Muses and not a horse?Definition: At one time, the goddesses of inspiring springs, the nine Muses became the representatives of poetry, the arts and science : Calliope, Muse of epic song, Clio, Muse of history, Euterpe, Muse of lyric song, Thalia, Muse of comedy and bucolic poetry, Melpomene, Muse of tragedy, Terpsichore, Muse of dance, Erato, Muse of erotic poetry, Polyhymnia, Muse of sacred song, and Urania, Muse of astronomy.

The band consisted and still consists of Matthew Bellamy, Christopher_Wolstenholme(bass guitar and backing vocals) and Dominic%20HowardHoward (drums and percussion).
