Artemis felt threatened by Meleager and Atalanta's skill at hunting and feared that the mortals would worship the pair for hunting and stop worshipping her.
In mythology, probably Atalanta
Atalanta was a beautiful Greek princess, not a goddess, (although some believe that she was a member of Artemis's [or Roman Diana's] Hunt) so she went by Atalanta in both Roman and Greek culture.
Most likely Artemis was mad though she did not punish her. It is not told in the story whether or not she was mad
Atalanta, having grown up in the wilderness, became a fierce huntress and was always armed. It is said that she took an oath of virginity to the goddess Artemis. When two centaurs Rhoikos and Hylaios tried to rape her, Atalanta killed them.
I have never heard of a Greek myth that retells such a happening; Artemis was associated with bears and the birth of a child/young animal. This might be a confusion over the raising of Atalanta who was suckled by a bear and was the favorite of Artemis.
Meleager.
Meleager and Melanion (Hippomenes) were in love with Atalanta.
Atalanta had one (half-)brother, Meleager, but she did not have any known sisters.
The hide of the Calydonian boar.
Meleager, Prince of Calydon
She swore that she would never marry.
He admired her hunting ability and beauty.
Perseus, Theseus, Bellerophon, Atalanta, Heracles (Hercules in Roman), and Meleager.
The king of Calydon, Oeneus, accidentally left Artemis out of the normal annual sacrifices. This angered Artemis, so she sent the boar to punish Oeneus, and show him just how important she was. When Oeneus's son, Meleager put together a hunt to kill the boar, Artemis sent the huntress Atalanta (in some versions a human form of herself) to join the hunt, because she knew having a woman there would disrupt proceedings. She was right, since Atalanta's presence indirectly caused the death of Meleager and his two uncles, as well as the heartbreak (and suicide, in some versions) of Queen Althaea and King Oeneus. Lesson: Don't mess with Greek Gods
No, it's Artemis. Atalanta wasn't even a goddess. She was a mortal.
When Meleager died his sisters the Meleagrides (except for Gorge and Deianira) wept so much that the gods turned them into guinea hens/fowls. Meleager had been a hunter and Artemis was goddess of hunting.
