Before the arrival of Spanish conquistadores in the 16th century, the Aztec Empire had almost no vulnerabilities. The Empire was at its peak when Cortes and his men arrived to Mexican shores. If you mean what brought down the Aztec Empire, such weaknesses included three things: lack of enough technology - horses, gunpowder, iron armors - to repeal the Spanish advance; lack of resistance to smallpox, which decimated the Aztec population and helped Cortes gaining an upper hand against the Aztecs. Finally, the Quetzalcoatl myth, which helped Cortes to become close to Montezuma so he could prepare and implement a sneak attack on the Aztec emperor.

The Aztecs built their empire second, after the Maya civilization. The Aztec Empire flourished in Mesoamerica from the 14th to the 16th century, while the Maya civilization reached its peak in the Classic period from 250 to 900 AD.
At its peak, Tenochtitlan, the capital city of the Aztec Empire, had an estimated population of around 200,000 to 300,000 inhabitants. It was one of the largest and most advanced cities in the world at the time.

Aztec Peak is the highpoint of the Sierra Ancha Mountains. This relatively unknown mountain range is located in the Tonto National Forest. Aztec Peak is also located in the Sierra Ancha Wilderness Area. Although the Sierra Ancha Mountains are not very impressive, they do have some precipitous box canyons, towering vertical cliffs, and pine-covered mesas. Elevations range from 4,000' near Cherry Creek to 7,748' atop Aztec Peak. A primitive road leads all the way to the summit of Aztec Peak, where a fire lookout is located. Aztec Peak is really just a rounded hill partially covered with trees, and it's not easily recognizable from a distance. There are many trails, roads, and campgrounds in the Sierra Ancha Mountains. With a prominence of 2,468', Aztec Peak is big enough to make an appearance on the Arizona Prominence Map.
