The country of Persia officially changed name in 1935. This was only for foreigners. In an official decree, the Iranian foreign office has asked the foreign embassies to use the name Iran, as Iranians have always named their country, instead of Persia which was considered being an old fashioned name for a country which wanted to be considered as modern.
