Concrete, the arc and Christianity, etc. comes from rome.

Paper, the crossbow, the compass, gunpowder and first use of steel comes from china.

I'd say the Chinese were both technologically and economically more advanced than the Romans at that time. But the Romans conquered and influenced Europe with their culture and religion which eventually reached the new world. Historically, china remains one of the oldest continuous living civilisations in the world. And the best part of it, they still speak the same language as they did 5000 years ago. Latin OTOH lost its influence since the begin of the modern era. Reminder: stay realistic, don't watch too much Hollywood (i.e. The Gladiator). There are too many inaccuracies in the film (i.e. the man with a four-sided "crossbow" at the colosseum scene). Also, just to name a few, Marco Polo brought "pasta" and ice cream to Italy.
