Eros has more than one role in Greek mythology. Originally, he was the god of love, but not like Aphrodite the goddess of love. He was one of the original gods, with the sky (kronos) and the earth (gaia). Eros represents the pure drive of sex and lust, without which species would cease to mate and procreate. Aphrodite, the goddess of love focuses more on attraction, romance, and different aspects of love and sex, and Eros is the pure animal instinct and lustful drive to have sex. The word "erotic" comes from his name.

Later, Eros was confused or sort of demoted or reduced to Cupid, the winged son of Aphrodite, known for his arrows of gold or lead, which would cause ppl to act either with lust and attraction or indifference toward the first person the target visually saw after being shot with his arrows.

So, Eros is the god of love, sex and lust, pure sex drive, but often confused with Cupid, another later love god
