He got killed, just joking. If you mean the original Augustus, the first Roman emperor, nothing caused his downfall. He was beloved by the people and many of the aristocrats alike. For some, he was the only leader they knew. They experienced and appreciated the improvements and prosperity he gave to Rome. At his death he was deified and subsequent emperors all vowed to rule "according to the principles of Augustus". (Whether they did or not is questionable).

∙ 13y agoClaudius' downfall came about when he began having regrets about adopting his wife's son, Nero, as his heir. In order to prevent him from changing his mind, it is said that his wife poisoned him.

∙ 13y agoThe ancient writers say that Augustus caught a chill and had a fever while on a tour. Given his age (77) it is speculated that he died of pneumonia. We will probably never know for certain, but "natural causes" seems to cover it.

Tiberius won many battles. But he was very unhappy with his life. In 6 BC, when Tiberius was 36 years old, he quit his army positions and announced he was moving to the island of Rhodes. His step-father, Augustus was upset because he had no other sons to succeed him. After Augustus died, Tiberius was forced to come back to Rome and become the next emperor.
