the Aztecs respected the men they captured and the one who captured him

referred to him as "my beloved son" and the captured man referred to his captor as "my beloved father". these men up until the feast where they were sacrificed to the gods were well cared for. a warrior could never eat of the flesh of the man he captured for that was seen as sacriligious. they usually held them for a year and during that time saw that they were taken very good care of for they represented the god on earth.
