Argos was quite a challenge for him, which involved the use of all his powers.
Argos had a unique brain which was always partly awake and never asleep, and had several eyes, three in the front of his head and three looking behind him. He guarded Io, a beautiful Godess who Hera hated because she was a mistress of Zeus.
Hermes approaches the giant with his helmet of invisibility on. He has a Caduceus, a staff of sleeping, which he uses to put one part of Argos' brain to sleep. The other part he hypnotises with his Lyre, his mesmeric singing voice, and Pan's pipes of peace. Having thus put the giant completely to sleep, he quickly stabs all the eyes with his razor-sharp golden dagger, thus blinding and killing the giant in his sleep.
