His generals who divided and took over his empire which we call the Hellenistic Kingdoms - Ptolemy in Egypt, Seleucis in Syria and the east, and Antigonus in part of Asia Minor.
Syria became a province of the Roman empire in approximately 64 BC. The general, Pompey conqured this area, then south of Mesopotamia and north of Judea.
It is important to note that the Mamluks never controlled all of the territory in modern-day Egypt or modern-day Syria. However, the Mamluks controlled Cairo and Damascus by the beginning of the 13th century.
After the Byzantine-Sassanid War of 602-28 Syria became again a province of the Byzantine Empire. During the Muslim conquests of 634-718 Syria is conquered and became a caliphate (Islamic state) in the Middle East.

The Ottoman Empire controlled most of the Middle East except in the years 1516 to 1917. During World War 1 they lost control of the area to the French.

Syria is a modern country, Judah is a bronze-age country. The two never overlapped. There are numerous regimes based in what is now Syria that conquered all or part of Judah. These regimes include: the Kingdom of Aram, the Assyrian Empire, and the Seleucid Empire. Each one controlled Judah at a very different time.
Well kinda, Syria was fist given to the French who let it become independent, it was part of the Ottoman empire before WWI, a Muslim empire that at that point had control of almost all middle east Asia, to get back on target, no not after WWI but later.
The OTTOMAN EMPIRE controlled the lion's share of the Middle East from 1517 to 1919, when it was carved up by Britain, France and the Saudi Royal Family. The British and French division of the Levant and Mesopotamia has been termed the "Sykes-Picot Agreement".

Until 2005, Lebanon was occupied and controlled by Syria.
