She is also Nubian goddess Athenna and the Greek goddess of Knowledge and Technology, Athena. Just as Minerva she is Roman goddess. She is represented by a snake and a owl. The snake story I am unsure of exactly where it comes from, but it could come from the story of Cadmus and the birth of the city of Thebes in which Athena instructs Cadmus to remove the teeth of Ares' snake and sow them into the ground. The story of the owl comes from a story of some person was blaspheming the gods with all sorts of lies and cruel gestures, so Artemis, Athena, and another god came and had a party with them. One of the daughters was really mean to Athena, and Athena turned her into an owl. Stories aside, many pictures of statues and paintings of Athena depict her holding an owl, or with an owl near her. Also, many statues that were found in temples with Athena in holding a shield at her side and with a spear near her had a snake at her feet. I am unsure what significance the angel like being in her hand on those statues though hold. Addition: The 'angel-like' being is Nike, goddess of victory.
