Um...What is a Zeus and Hera story? Zeus often went gallivanting off with mortal women. One day Hera looked down from Mount Olympus and saw Zeus, her husband, with a girl named Io. In a rage, she flew down to earth to confront Zeus. Zeus saw her coming and changed Io into a white cow to cover up any evidence. However, Hera noticed the cow and guessed what had happened. She sweetly asked Zeus to give her the cow. Zeus had no choice but to hand over the cow unless he was to reveal his guilt. Hera set her guard, Argus to watch over the cow. Zeus pleaded with Hermes to help him rescue Io. Hermes agreed and went to Argus. Argus had a hundred eyes which were all over his body. He was a perfect watchman, since when he slept only half of his eyes would close while the rest remained alert. However, Hermes lulled all of Argus's eyes into and eternal sleep. When Hera found her cow gone and her trusted guard dead, she sent a huge fly to chase Io. It stung her and drove her into Egypt where she was then worshiped as a goddess. Hera took all of Argus's eyes and put them on the tail of her favorite bird, the Peacock. This is supposedly why Peacocks have "eyes" on their tails.
