The Egyiptians usuially wore white cotton clothes. White was the colour of cleanness. There is evidence that sometimes they wore coloured clothes as well. They usually had short hair bacause of the hot weather and a lot of nobles wore wigs. They liked to dye their hair. They used henna. Men wore apron-like dresses leaving the upper part of their body naked. Women wore straight white cotton dresses. Children wore almost nothing during summer. In the New Empire men started to wear cloaks over their clothes during the colder season. The Egyptians usually walked barefoot, but sometimes they wore sandals and gloves (see Tutankhamon's tomb). Wearing jewels was very popular in all the layers of society. The most popular jewels were the amulets.
