In Greek mythology, Nyx (Νύξ, "night", Nox in Roman translation) was the primordial goddess of the night. A shadowy figure, Nyx stood at or near the beginning of creation, and was the mother of personified gods such as Hypnos (sleep) and Thánatos (death). Her appearances in mythology are sparse, but reveal her as a figure of exceptional power and beauty.
I will remind everyone once again that Greek gods didn't have specific powers. They were omnipotent beings. That said, Nyx was a primordial god, and the embodiment of Night.
Her children were plentiful and were also embodiments of intangible concepts. Among them were Aether (atmosphere), Hemera (day), Thanatos (Death), Hypnos (sleep), Charon and the Fates.
Because she existed before the birth of Eros, Nyx and most of her children were born as offspring of a single parent.
